The Memories of Char Kuey Teow

Char Kuey Teow has always been my favorite street food delicacies. I usually like them with wet instead of dry. When I was studying in Penang, my friends (including Aimi of burp! le festin avec moi) and I would hunt for the best Char Kuey Teow in the area. We'd compare stalls in terms of taste,  portion, numbers and size of prawn/blood cockle. :P

We'd usually have them as we hangout with our classmates or when we were hungry after midnight studying. Some of my friend had this weird idea where he would order white rice and Char Kuey Teow, and had them as side dishes. It was fun.It was such a nice memory.

I would usually watch the cook and observing their ingredients, technique and method in preparing them. First, they would briefly stir fried the prawn in oil. Then, the chili paste, soy sauce and fish sauce would be added. Followed by blood cockles. Then, beansprouts and chives goes in the wok. Next, the noodle/kuey teow would goes in. The egg would goes in last.

So, when I'm craving for some Char Kuey Teow, I would experimenting to prepare them myself (as you can't really find this Char Kuey Teow as good as in Penang. Not even those stalls with 'Penang Char Kuey Teow' signboard). But of course, I need to practice more to get the taste that I loved. I wish I could go back to Penang and go hunting with my friends for the best Char Kuey Teow once again :)

Eating Out: Saad Char Kuey Teow @ Seksyen 7, Shah Alam

A few weeks ago, my friend and I went past this cute Char Kuey Teow shop in Seksyen 7, Shah Alam, called 'Saad Char Kuey Teow'. The outlet used to be somewhere at the food court in Jalan Plumbum. Now, they moved to a shoplot which is located near the Seksyen 7 lake. It starts operating after 5, I think...

My friends find that the signs was cute! There's a couple of prawns attached on the clock.

Somehow, this shop's furnishing reminds me to 'Fullhouse'. But, of course, 'Fullhouse' is much cuter. O(≧∇≦)O They're quite famous too! They are always packed with customers. If you didn't come early, there's a possibility that you might not get a seat.

Don't you think the furnishing is cute?

I've been a Char Kuey Teow fan since I lived in Penang a few years ago. I've always liked the wet-style Char Kuey Teow as compared to the dried one. What I loved about Saad's Char Kuey Teow was the freshness and sweetness of their prawns. The Kuey Teow wasn't that bad either! If you like wet-style Char Kuey Teow, you're going to love their Kuey Teow as well. ( ̄▽ ̄)

Normal sized Char Kuey Teow~

However, if you went to Saad's Char Kuey Teow, I would suggest you to order the Special Char Kuey Teow instead of the normal size one. You will get one fried egg on top on your Kuey Teow, a bit extra of those noodles and prawn with an addition of RM0.50!

Special Char Kuey Teow

However, in my opinion, the service isn't that good. The foods was a bit late (later than 15 minutes is considered late, right?). Some of the server wasn't friendly at all. There was once when a server rolled his eyes when we called him. I wasn't happy with that server at all! ( ̄へ ̄But, of course,  not all of their server was like that. Some of them was nice too.

They also serve many types of other foods. From top: Prawn Fried Rice, Cantonese Kuey Teow, and Omelet Rice or Nasi Pattaya.
